also, get more ram. !!|||You are running a whole load of background programmes your system uses ram to manage all the operations on your pc. If you click on start click on run and type msconfig in the box and click OK you will access system configuration and will see all the programmes which are running at startup. Just because you can't see them don't mean they ain't running!
