How does a world ruler ie media owner/editor make the decision who to stir public to back?
We saw it 10 years ago when Diana, Princess of Wales died… after they spent YEARS hounding her, fawning to her then turning her into a Saint before dissecting her character piece by piece over the years since her death when she cannot refute the allegations as to her character.
We saw it yesterday when a video of a missing child was played at a football match - albeit the F.A. Cup Final in the new Stadium at Wembley… and all the Sunday newspapers and current affairs radio and tv programmes.. (I FEEL for the parents, and their dignity is an inspiration… but I worry about all those images of a child being put out there for God knows whose delectation on a global scale… I’m sorry but facts are facts..)
Yet, we see little or no public backing for those serving in AFGHANISTAN or Iraq, putting our lives on the line on a daily basis in order to protect our democratic rights against cowardly terrorists and misguided and vulnerable young men with bombs strapped to their chests….

It is what sells newspapers that matters. Not the merits of a particular news item,or morality, but just commercial greed.A heart string pulling news item is always going to get more airing than the plight of troops in war zones no matter that one is far more important than the other. The press know what sort of story and headline will attract the greatest number of buyers for that day's edition and will select the one most likely to achieve that end.The fact that the degree of importance of any news item is either magnified or minimised is of no concern to the paper.Public opinion of many issues is based on what is published in the press and as the criteria for newspapers is to increase sales rather than honest reporting ,so the public view and opinions will be similarly distorted.
