Trouble with Windows Live Messenger- not receiving messages?

I dont get all my messages from other users. I can see that someone is typing-"Ashley is typing a message"...but then sometimes i dont receive the message...the other user has the whole conversation, so its only on my end...i have excellent connection, so what is the problem? should i re-download live messenger?
