I have some professional contacts on my list that prefer not to recieve various advertising or spam-like emails, however I would like to add them from Windows Live to my Yahoo Messenger so that I can utilize 1 messenger prgram only. How do I add them without sending them an invite to join Yahoo?

to start adding WLM contacts you need to signup for the partners program, for the last few days it's been down but today it appears to be up and running again so you can sign up for it at....

once you have done that, sign out of yahoo messenger and then sign back in again,

any WLM friends you want to add to your friends list must also have signed up for their own partners program, they need to do this at http://ideas.live.com

once you and your friends have done this you can just add them as you would any other friend, only different being you need to select Windows Live (MSN) from the drop down Network menu when you add them

speaking of smileys if you use Yahoo! plug-ins check out the YEmotePLUS plugin http://us.gallery.yahoo.com/apps/380/ which gives you access to all the yahoo smileys and there is a preselection which detects when you're talking to an msn user and subsequently gives you just the compatible smileys :)
