Windows\system32\config\ system, file missing or corrupt HELP!?
I've tried f8 options (safe mode, last known good configuration, etc) and still I can't get past the error message above, it won't let me reboot my laptop or log on. I have a cd that says on the cover: Operating System CD, Microsoft Windows xp home SP1a" in a black background, is it the one I need?? I thought of following the steps posted on microsoft support webpage and all the other related websites by using the cd, but microsoft support says in red letters "DO NOT USE THESE STEPS if your computer has its operating system installed by an OEM because it will create user accounts and passwords that didn't exist before, hence you won't be able to log in to the repairing console to restore the original seccions of the registry" I think my laptops is an OEM, it's a hp pavilion zx5000 it also has a little glittering authentication label that says "disinged for windosw xp" and windows original logo on it. Is it an OEM? if so, Should i follow the steps to recover the registry? HELP please
Windows\system32\config\ system, file missing or corrupt HELP!?microsoft exchangeThis is most probably a OEM cd.Its the case in most systems that come with pre installed OS.
But the laptop would also give you a restoration disc.
Use this instead of the installation disc.
