Windows xp media center and xbox 360 help!?

Well the video playback for the windows xp media center to my xbox 360 sucks can never play my videos even if they are supported!!!!! I converted the file into .wmv like Microsoft support said still doesn't work if im using xbox 360 with XP is it extender or is that for vista????? what codecs do I need when i try to play the file tis said I don't have the right codecs installed or corrupted file and its not corrupted file I didn't do asnything except setup up the 360. I am able to watch the videos on medias center on PC but not xbox 360 if need more info ask and I'll add more but please help me!!!!!
