All the tech info says it's easy, but I just can't get it to work. I've followed all the advice in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and various technical forums and made some limited progress - I can now see the XP machines on the Network map, but am unable to communicate with any of them or access any files or folders. I've tried wireless, direct cable, and hardwired via a router. The Vista PC communicates fine with the router. The XP machines cannot see the Vista one at all. As a last resort, I tried installing XP instead of Vista - but XP doesn't appear to contain the drivers for half the hardware in my PC (dual-core processor Compaq Presario F545EA), so had to go back to Vista. The nice people in Hewlett Packard's indian call-centre appear completely bemused by my questions - I don't think Vista is on the help-desk menu yet - and just refer me to Microsoft support (which is, of course, not available for OEM versions of Windows) or the HP website - which doesn't help at all. Help!

Have you set up the drives that you want to access across the network as shared resources. If you go to 'my computer' and right click on the drive/directory icon and select properties, you should be able to set it up as a shared resource.
