My boyfriends xbox is out of warranty and needs fixing, i contacted microsoft support and they told me it would cost 85 pounds, to have it collected,fix and sent back.

they confirmed that if you register with microsoft that you are given another years warranty, but he didnt register with MICROSOFT.

BUT my boyfriend said that he saw somthing on the xbox website that said if you register your 360 as a gold member or just use it live that you are auomatically registered, and given an extra years warranty.

is this true?

Please help with ideas on how to get this sorted. i have looked at the price of buying just the console and it looks to be ￡160.

when paying the other day the graphics degraded and looked like a cartoon, so he restarted, but when it came back on there was clear sound but no picture, at first he thought it was the cable so he took it to GAME and they confirmed it is the console.

This defiently sounds like a gpu connection issue of the GPU to the main board. No, unless you purchased an extended warrenty from microsoft they will not repair it for free, unless you make them. Microsoft only will give in to one thing: threat of lawsuit. I had the same issue with mine and I got them to repair it after sending them a nice little letter. If you dont want to send the letter, wait, and then finally get a repair started you could try a long term temp. fix like the heat gun fix. No its not true its only extended 3 more months|||It's not true. When you buy a 360, the warranty is for 1 year. If he registered (enter his serial number for his 360) his 360 on XBL, then it should confirm that it was around that time that he bought the 360.

If he has the receipt or credit card statement, then there's his proof about when he got it.
