I design and develop websites and I was wondering if there are some developer tools out there (I heard something about a firefox extension) that allows you to preview sites in multiple browsers from one computer...
Is there anyway to test websites in IE 6, IE 7 and Firefox on the same computer?microsoft sql server
Two ways I use, but I'm sure there are others:
(1) ...of course...Make sure you have copies of all three
browsers installed. I didn't mean to insult you by saying that! Know where their executables are. Build your website files in some folder. Go to My Computer. Right-click any file. Open-with...and go find the appropriate executable.
(2) Buy the web page editor WeBuilder (http://www.blumentals.net). It lets you configure browsers for "preview". Add all three browsers. With a click, you can choose a browser for previewing whatever file you're editing at the moment.
You can of course fetch copies of other browsers with either (1) or (2)...I have Opera, Safari-for-Windows, Iceweasel, Amaya, Avant, Netscape.

Don|||The firefox extension referred to is most likely the user agent switcher. This does not give you the full effect of using the actual IE6/7/Opera/Lynx/etc browsers though.|||Well, if you really care about cross-browser compatibility, then you should also care about cross-platform, and at least test on a few Mac browsers.
One good solution in general to this problem is to use virtual machines with the many different OS/browser combinations. Software such as VMWare makes this possible.
