I keep getting the error message:

"You cannot use Windows Live Messenger at this time because your contact list is not available. Please try again later.

Error code:81000378"

If I right click on the program in the program tray thingy and open it that way it logs on, but if I try to open the program and log in that way, I get that error message. Any ideas on what this is and how I can fix it is greatly appreciated.

hey yea it happened too me as well :(

mines been down for about 3 hours now

so i hop it gets fixed

but when i do some config test it says theres a problem with the default gateway in msn so it could be that

im really not sure but id thought id let you know mines down as well :)

i have the same problem as well at this moment and believe others are as well, use the old messenger installed on xp or the web based one for the time being, by the looks of it they have a server down or doing maitenence|||Alright...my room mate has had this problem for at least the last 7 hours. She uninstalled, went back to MSN 7...and it ran great...for about 3 minutes before cheerfully informing her that she had to upgrade to the latest version...Windows Live. Which, of course...will not allow her to log in.

I suggested she install Trillian, which is what I use, and at least she now has access to MSN beyond the bare basic webmessenger...which is something.|||I just got the same error you mentioned. I search Google for a solution and got the url attached that worked "alla grande" (Italian slang that stands for: very good, perfectly) :-)
