i use firefox and my automatic updates are turned OFF and i want to leave it that way.

no harm in trying to update anyway the worst theyll say is no, click start all programs and at the top should be windows update... just follow through with that.

what messenger needs is the updated windows install program. which windows update installs for you automatically (before checking if your genuine) and if that doesnt work... then chances are your going to have to start asking about how to fake WGA.

which is a nice way of saying trick microsoft into thinking youve got a legit copy.

Seriously, you have no reason to turn automatic updates off... just set it to download but dont install, then you manually install (right click on the yellow shield by the clock) everything EXCEPT anything with WGA in the title... guarantee thatll make your life easier... and safer.
