How to directly connect Windows live messenger or Windows messenger without using the IE proxy?

I do have to set a proxy in IE, but I do have to connect Windows Live Messenger or Windows Messenger to the Internet without using that set proxy in IE? I can not find an option to do so. How can I achieve that by an easy way?

I think you have to get the regular, stand alone version of MSN messenger. This works independent of IE.
