In Internet exporer the text is shifted to the right, can somone please tell me in simple terms how to fix it? Its something to do with float...

Why not just,

...

#logo { clear: left; float: left; margin: 0; overflow: hidden; padding: 0; width: 236px; }

#text { float: right; margin: 0; overflow: hidden; padding: 0; width: 555px; }

...playing with the "555" and the "236" as needed to deal with various releases of IE and their bugginess with floating

Looks exactly the same to me in IE 7 and Firefox.

If you are using a float left on the image, why not use a float left on the text container so it just sits next to the image, instead of using the margin as you have?

This is the effect of the IE float bug, I don't think it's what is affecting your page either because currently your text container doesn't have 'float' applied:

Don't forget you can use the * html prefix for attributes you want to give to objects for IE6 and earlier only.
