you might want to start by having a look under the startup tab and see if anything looks like it shouldn't be there. if this is the case, uncheck it, apply and restart. if you're not familiar with the startup tab however, don't do this.

go to boot and pick safe mode with network - this will let you access the net so that when you install your virus/spyware you can get them updated, but will only start the very basic processes in the computer, which means it shouldn't allow your bug to re-install itself - this is why it keeps coming back after you thougt you got rid of it.

install your new spyware/antivirus stuff and update all of them. then scan, one program at a time. i'd bet my piggybank you'll find spyware....

whatever you find, get rid of. write down names and locations so that you can then go into your search page and look for any traces left. if there is anything that looks like it may be part of the system, rename it rather than delete it. you can always go back and change the name again but often you can't undelete. changing the name will break any links there may be to that file and so you will be able to tell if it's a file you need or not by how changing the name affects the computer.
