I have been on aol for several years now and have a wireless netgear router and windows vista laptop ,
for the past 6 weeks , at least one day of the week (more often than not on a thursday or sunday) iv turned on my laptop and tried accessing internet through ie explorer and get the dreaded THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED error, i try sign on via aol and i get about ten or more connectivity error messages al popping up , i try windows live messenger and no joy , run a test via windows live and shows probs with dns and proxy connection , i then go to networking via control pannel it shows a connection between my laptop and wireless is fine but a cross on the wireless to internet and the internet icon turns black n white , i try resetting my wireless and nothing , restart and nothing , empty temp fileas , clear cache still nothing , so i ring aol only to hear a 30 minute , nx day all is fine , why does this keep happening, anyone else had similar problems with aol lately?
AOL network problems??internet explorer 6Next time it happens, go to http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.1.1/ (whichever one is your gateway address) and see if you can get to the router. If you can't, it's a problem with the router.*
If you can, take the plug from the computer out of the router and plug it into the modem. If you can't connect to the internet, it's AOL's problem - you'll have to contact them and wait. (Or it could be the local carrier you're getting your AOL service from - but you'll have to let AOL's tech support handle that.)
*Is the router placed where it can get cool air from all sides (including the bottom - no soft cloth)? Don't put it on top of, or next to, any other electronic equipment. Most routers can barely keep cool enough in modern homes - any additional heat causes them to overheat, and the first part to shut down is usually the wireless part. If turning the router off for about 15 minutes seems to cure the problem, it's overheating.
