No, you can use both.

IE is set as the default browser, but it's easy to switch that to Firefox.

The only problem you might run into is when you try to access certain pages that are formatted to run on IE only.

Its perfectly safe although they might keep asking you if you want to change the default browser around.

Just click default for Firefox, and when IE asks you the same question, state "no" and "don't perform this check when startup".
